Our Story

If you don't already know how we met, here's the scoop.

It took some time for our paths to cross. We had lived merely blocks away from one another for almost 6 years before meeting. Though we have vague recollections of seeing one another around the neighborhood, the right moment for us to meet came in the year 2008.

"I remember seeing Amanda (and her mullet) driving her teal Jetta through the neighborhood" - Andrew

With Andrew's status as a respectable disc jockey in Minneapolis and Amanda's enjoyment in going out to dance, it was inevitable that our paths would eventually cross. One night at First Avenue's Too Much Love dance party, with our mutual friend Quan’s help, we finally met!

We started to hang out together and found we really enjoyed each other's company. We were doing the things we both liked to do — only now we were sharing these moments together.

Over time, we discovered similarities in the fundamentals of how we were brought up, as well as what interests us as individuals. These similarities include an appreciation for music, a gushy infatuation with cats, the benefits of a plant based diet, a fondness for finely made automobiles, knowledge and experience in art and design, and a delight for the outdoors.

"I knew Andrew was my soulmate when he told me the taste of honey reminded him of childhood." - Amanda

In the fall of 2011, in order to feed our interest in music, we took a road trip to Asheville, North Carolina for the Moog Music Festival. After having a fun-filled festival weekend, we drove up the beautiful scenic Blue Ridge Parkway for some relaxation. We went to Grandfather Mountain State Park, and after a short hike up to the highest point and a stroll over the swinging bridge, Andrew proposed!

"Having never seen mountains before this trip, the setting was overwhelming and the moment was amazing. Andrew completely surprised me!" - Amanda

On September 13, 2014 we are finally making our union official and can't wait to celebrate with you.

Survival Guide

Here are some tips to help you enjoy your experience to the fullest. We want you to be prepared so that you can have an amazing weekend!

What should I wear?

...

Attire should be dress-casual.

Come prepared for the weather. This could mean wellies and raincoats if it's wet.

Ladies, high-heels are probably not the best option since we'll be outside in the lawn.

Do I need insect repellent?

...

It's not a bad idea. We're hoping it's late enough in the summer that the bugs won't be a problem, but there is no guarantee.

Alternatively, if you'd like to deter the Minnesota state bird (the mosquito) naturally, you could consume a ton of garlic the night before. Go ahead. We won't judge.

Since this is happening outside, will there be a bathroom to use?

...

We will have "outhouses" available, which we're told will include a sink and mirror.

But don't hesitate to bring some hand sanitizer if you get uncomfortable with this kind of arrangment.

What happens if the weather is bad?

...

Join us in positive thinking and faith that we will have wonderful September weather for our big day.

If it's raining, we will have a tent to celebrate under. The party will go on!

How will I get there?

...

You will be responsible to get yourself to Deerwood.

If you're staying at Ruttgers, we hope to have a shuttle available to get you to and from the property safely on the day of the celebration.

If you choose to drive to the property, we will have specified areas to park your vehicle.

Will I need a flashlight?

...

It does get dark up in the north woods, but we plan to have plenty of light sources set up around the property.

Think candles, strings of lights, and don't forget the bonfire! So leave your flashlights at home and get romantic with us under the starry sky.

Can I pack my flask?

...

If you don't like beer or wine, this might be your best option.

This sounds campy, can I pitch my tent?

...

Though you're right — the theme of our wedding is a bit campy — no camping will be allowed on the property.

If you'd like to have the full north woods experience, feel free to seek out a nearby campground to set up camp!

What happens if I see a bear?

...

You might see a variety of wildlife throughout the weekend including deer, squirrles, birds, loons, racoons, beavers, fox, and even a lynx!

If you see a bear, you may have partied too hard.

Can I bring my fishing gear?

...

There will be no fishing allowed on "Wood Lake" this weekend. But feel free to seek out your prime fishing spot on any of the other nearby lakes.

Andrew can confirm that Bay Lake is great for catching bass.

Will there be time for recreational activities?

...

We're hoping you will find some time to enjoy your weekend however you desire, but just remember, Saturday evening you're all ours!

Where can I go for food and drink on the off hours?

...
